60 Years of David Hockney

Yorkshire born David Hockney is a national treasure and one of Britain’s most successful living artists.

Spanning 60 years, his career has seen him experiment with a whole range of techniques including photography, printmaking, painting, drawing, and has even been known to use his iPad. His work pays tribute to all of the things that he has loved, including friends and family, the Yorkshire countryside and of course, his dogs.

Hockney’s latest exhibition, ‘Hockney, Printmaker’ at Dulwich Picture Gallery celebrates the 60th anniversary of the artist’s first print, showcasing over 100 carefully selected prints with a focus on his lithography and etching.

We decided to honour this anniversary with a walk down memory lane, taking a look at some of his finest moments over the years.

With files dating back as far as 1978, it was difficult to be selective when looking through the archives.

The following is just a very small snippet of what our archives hold on the fascinating career of David Hockney.
