Spitalfields - Istituto Marangoni

Spitalfields - Istituto Marangoni

Nicholas Hawksmoor's fine example of architecture of the early 18th century as we see in this picture of Christ Church Spitalfields was completed in 1829 and of interest recently renovated for us all to witness in  its most magnificent splendour.

This fabulous architectural example is situated directly opposite the historical Spitalfields Market and virtually adjacent to Fashion Street where you might recall in an earlier blog  (26th August) I reminisced  about lecturing at the Istituto Marangoni.

Lo and behold in the Education section in THE GUARDIAN today Tuesday 28th  there is a full page advertorial concerning the many attributes of Istituto Marangoni.

In my swift research this morning to try and find out the origins and architect of the building in which the Istituto resides in Fashion St I've drawn a blank, but being an architectural groupie I'll be back on this aspect.

Suffice it to say that the mantra of the Historical Buildings dept for this district of London thankfully prevailed and the most interesting front facade looking on to Fashion St was retained albeit once you step over the threshold you're exposed to the most intriguing contemporary environment.

Thank God for preservation
