Scania Textiles - Visuals For Your Mental Design Bank

Scania Textiles - Visuals For Your Mental Design Bank

The word Scania is to most of us synonymous with Scania trucks and the description of an area within certain northern European countries - Scandinavia.

Scania was, in fact, a province of Denmark in the early 18th Century before becoming part of Sweden.

I think you will have noticed if you follow my blogs that I'm a Scandiophile and in particular, glass, ceramics and textiles, where I've worked intensively in all sectors.

During my travels I visited certain museums and saw the intriguing and some might say quaint tapestries from the district of Scania that formed a dowry for a marriage particularly in the 18th and early 19th Century.

These images by virtue of the method of weaving, invariably in farmhouses, could be parallelled with the weavings from the Middle East and Ikat designs.

As an influence and a part of one's 'mental design bank' these have to be a must, added to which they exemplify the whole notion of hand worked and crafted pieces which growingly are coming back to the fore as an activity and a 'must have' item in any household.
