It was announced today that Topshop and Topman will be introduced into American department store Nordstrom.
The British brand will be sold in 14 Nordstrom stores across
the US, with limited edition pieces created especially for the
retailer. All the visual merchandising, store fixtures and mannequins will be supplied from the UK to keep global image consistency. This launch co insides with the Topshop expansion throughout America. Topshop already has stores in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and in 2013 a new store in Los Angeles is rumoured to be opening.

But are Topshop going backwards with this plan? Shouldn't they of started in department stores and then expanded to stand alone?
Another brand that started with Nordstrom and ended with stand alone stores is French brand Faconnable founded in 1950 with the first French boutique opening in 1984. In 1988 Faconnable was introduced to the American market with merchandise being placed in Nordstrom stores. From the success of the range in the popular department store Faconnable later opened their first stand alone boutique on 5th avenue in 1993.
