The coincidencies of life are remarkable possibly spurred on by a forever subliminal process of always wishing to 'join the dots' when related to my Archives here!!!!
We've just returned from our honeymoon in Marrakech - Morocco, hence no BLOGS for the last 5/6 weeks, but when there witnessing all the colours and delights of Morocco's age old heritage which was fantastic.
The manner by which they have held onto all those indigenous skills of craftmanship whether they were potters, weavers for fabrics, cloth and carpets or their skills in shaping the local hardwoods or their incredible metal bashing skills with and their fret work is remarkable.
We quickly realised and understood why so many people are gobsmacked by all this 'real' beauty.
Our thinking was that there had to be a Morrocan fashion designer that we knew by name but hadn't pinpointed that they were born in Morocco.
All this thinking was further enhanced having visited the Jardin Majorelle and the fact that Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge through their Foundation were ensuring the continuity of these fabulous gardens now complemented by the Musee Berbere .
Yves and Pierre had a home here for many years.
Morocco is a delightful country, what with the Atlantic coast - Essaouira, the Atlas Mountains - and UNESCO site at Ait Benhaddou as well as The Gateway to the Sahara at Ouarzazate.
We took lunch at Richard Branson's Kasbah Tamadot in Imlil at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains which wasn't expensive and good value if one adds in the views and tranquil location.
As a sequitor to that lunch we met with our longstanding designer friends from NY/ Frenchtown on the Delaware River for another memorable lunch the day after we got back to the UK at the Brompton Brasserie at Brompton Cross (Brompton Rd and Draycott Avenue) London and as we entered we glanced over to JOSEPH's shop and mentally made the connection with Morocco
Joseph Ettedgui was born in Casablanca to a furniture retailing family he emigrated to LONDON in 1960 and was 'around' at the start of the "swinging sixties" he having a hairdressing salon on the Kings Road.
As can be said the rest is history!
