I've recently blogged about certain high street retailers of prominence here in the UK over these last 15+ years which included both Kevin Sandford and Nick Samuel of Karen Millen/All Saints and Hobbs respectively.
Being eternally trapped in a syndrome of for ever thinking laterally - "joining the dots" I was reminded when writing the Karen Millen blog of Nick's funeral and wake which was held at Brocket Hall, most recently famous for Lord Brocket burying a number of Ferraris in the Brocket estate lake to claim on their insurance value which resulted in Lord Brocket serving at Her Majesty's pleasure for a few years!
Back to Nick's wake - my wife and I were standing on a balcony overlooking the spectacular sweeping grounds down to the lake when Kevin recognised me and came over to chat at which time I introduced him to my wife - Renate.
Being the charmer that he is he then politely suggested that the dress that Renate was wearing might be a Dries van Noten .
Well being that knowledgeable made a hit with Renate and proved, as if we didn't know, that he had an eye for all things relative to fashion and design.
Subsequent to the meet up at 'the wake' Renate and I attended Kevin's own marriage in August that year which was a riot of spectacular events and fun.
On one flank of Kevin and Andrea's wedding marquee over looking a lake in the grounds of their wonderful home the 'designers' of the event had covered the wall in Singer sewing machines as found in all the All Saints stores worldwide.

Dries was born in Belgium in 1959 and came from a family connected with fashion, his grandfather being a tailor and his father owning a Menswear shop.
Dries graduated from Antwerp in 1980 and latterly was known to be the leading member of the Antwerp Six
Dries has been described as "one of fashion's most cerebral designers".
