Battle of Crecy 26th

The interesting thing about Crecy and Creasey is that we've basically proved subject to definitive DNA tests that it is most likely that we are directly descended from a family in Crecy of the 14thcentury.

We've visited Crecy en Ponthieu on a number of occasions and have seen the Bois de Crecy and the site of the famous battle that took place on August 26th 1346.

Elements of the Crecy heraldry as seen in Crecy en Ponthieu matches  a wall plague in St Nicholas Church in Harpenden Hertfordshire of the 15th century.

We have already established a direct lineage of the family with the surname morphing over the centuries from Crecy to Cressie to Cressy to Cresy to Creasey and the amazing thing is that I live in a hamlet less than 10 miles to where the family resided in Harpenden some 800 years ago. The Creasey forbears coming out of the City of London where they were founding members of The Worshipful Company of Mercers where the wealth was derived from silk enabling them to purchase Rothamsted Manor just outside Harpenden and where they stayed   for about two centuries

Over the next centuries the family were small holders, lathe splitters and renders and publicans and of interest there was a pub in the hamlet where I live that was owned by a direct line member of the Creasey family some 200 years ago.

Life goes on and the family line is safe for some long time yet there being a number of Creasey sons and grandsons
