Germany: Not just great at football...

With their dramatic victory over Brazil last night, everyone is talking all things Germany.

We thought we'd jump on the bandwagon and share five other (talented) reasons that the Germans have to celebrate.

All images used on the Leslie Creasey Blog are from my hand clipped archive documenting 40 years of Style and Design media.  For all enquiries please contact leslie@charismatic-brands.com

1. Karl Lagerfeld

Fashion phenomenon Karl Lagerfeld first made a name for himself when he moved to Paris in the 50's, impressing various fashion houses with his sketching ability. Since then, he has set up his own labels and also designed for Chloé, Fendi and most recently Chanel.

2. Helmut Newton

Helmut Newton was one of the most controversial fashion photographers of his time. Known to some as the 'King of Kink', Newton's black and white provocative images have undoubtedly shaped the face of fashion photography. We've taken a look back at some of his highlights from our archives.

3. Adidas

If you were to ask someone to name a sports brand, you can guarantee that Adidas would be one of the first names that spring to mind. Initially registered as Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik in 1924 by brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler, Adidas was born after a dispute between the brothers caused them to split and set up their own companies; Adolf set up Adidas and Rudolf went on to set up rival company Puma. Today Adidas sponsor countless teams and sportsmen/women worldwide and are currently seeing their name in lights as one of the main sponsors for the FIFA World Cup.

        2005                                     2006

4. Jil Sander

Queen of minimalism, Jil Sander is one of the most successful names in German fashion. She set up her eponymous brand back in 1968 after working as a fashion editor in German magazine Petra and has since then developed a worldwide reputation for perfectionism. Sander's simplistic designs attracted the budding businesswomen of the 80's and 90's, where her brand really started to take off. Last year it was announced that Sander was leaving the brand (for good this time) and her name will now be carried by her dedicated team.
